Hey guys Esme here. Thanks for stopping by. Lets talk about cowlicks and how we can really tame them. But first, what is a cowlick?
So a cowlick is a section of hair that grows in a different direction than the rest, causing it to stick up, split, or resist lying flat- no matter how we style it. I have a better way of describing them: Inspiration! Cowlicks dictate everything about your haircut, from the way it should be cut, to how short it will be cut, or what should be the most natural effortless hairstyle for you. Most "Barber Shop clipper FADES" usually cut them out. Unfortunately this leads to a hairstyle that grows back with in a week, awkward looking, and unable to be styled, without tons of product. This is where Shear Edge NYC precision scissor work and superior styling eye comes in to play. Every head and hairstyle is different. We pride ourselves in understanding, personalizing, and celebrating what makes each client unique.
Other hairstylists may find cowlicks challenging, annoying; or just want to cut them out all together. We would rather look at it like a road map. Well Esme what does that look like? I am sure that you know a barber cuts lasts about 2 week before it grows out and hits an awkward stage, leaving you dying to run back to the barber for the next chop; with scissor over comb techniques you need at least 5-6 weeks of grow out. This will enable us to see your hair's full potential.
If you are unable to wait the 3-4 weeks, that's ok. But keep in mind that I will need something to cut and style. So 3-4 weeks is the least amount of time to wait to come to us after a barber cut. Once I can see how the hair looks in its natural state, and we have an in-depth consultation talking about your needs, wants, and concerns you will be as confident in me as I am to be able to deliver your vision.

Your unique hair style is what is revealed by your cowlicks. When this is discovered you will never look at your cowlicks the same, they are something to be celebrated because they are the key to your unique style.
